History

The major purposes of our establishment were due to growing importance and higher demand of biostatisticians in the medical and healthcare field. In order to train students with good statistical analysis and communication capability to cooperate with staffs or researchers from other fields, the Graduate Institute of Biostatistics was established in August, 2008. It is the first graduate institute of biostatistics in universities of Taiwan.

 

Development Direction

The development direction of this graduate institute is mainly focused on the application of biostatistics in the public health, medicine and health related fields, such as data analysis and study design in clinical trials, epidemiology observational study, predication model and psychometrics. We also provide students different biostatistics courses including epidemiology data analysis of genetic and environmental factors, generalized linear models, survival analysis, prediction of the responsiveness of quality of life, prediction models accompanied with different research designs, and the valid and updated epidemiology statistical methods.

Among the areas of application are community health, diabetes and cardiovascular diseases, data analysis in clinical trials and genetic epidemiology, cancer, childhood asthma, bone disease, laryngopharyngeal reflux symptom, genome-wide association study, rare variant analysis, gene-gene interaction analysis, pathway analysis, medical outcome measurement.

Our goal is to cultivate students to become biostatisticians with professionalism, critical thinking and life-Long learning competences.
